How Does The 1st Session Work?
You get acquainted with your therapist, as your therapist gets to know you. You will start to feel more comfortable as your first session progresses. By the end of your session, your therapist will have a sense of your background which will allow for more in-depth therapy in subsequent sessions.
Do We Provide CBT?
Yes.
What Is The Difference Between A Psychologist And A Psychotherapist?
A psychologist:
- has a doctorate degree in psychology, the study of human development, learning, and behavior
- is trained in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness, emotional disorders, and behavioral problems
- uses a variety of theoretical orientations such as CBT, mindfulness, and psychodynamic therapy to help people understand the nature of difficulties they may be dealing with, develop insight and skills to minimize and manage the impact of their problems
- are the only professionals specifically trained and qualified in the development, research, and administration of specialized psychological tests used to assess elements of intelligence or achievement, personality characteristics, mental and emotional disorders
- The term “psychologist” is a protected and privileged term in Canada and the US. Only members of a local regulatory body, such as L’Ordre des psychologue du Quebec (OPQ) and the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO), may call themselves psychologists
- is a professional who specifically provides talk therapy for the purpose of treating mental health disorders
- can have training from any mental health related fields such as counselling, psychology, social work, and nursing
- when it comes to the treatment of mental health disorders, the roles of psychologists and psychotherapists overlap, but, in general, the services psychologists offer go beyond just psychotherapy
- psychotherapists are not trained in assessment or diagnosis
